First a patient should be familiar with the laws surrounding medical marijuana at the state and national levels. On November 6, 2018, residents in Missouri voted in favor of Amendment 2 which legalized the use of medical marijuana in the state as well as home cultivation. The U.S. government did not, or has not…..yet. This is not a prescription. You won’t be able to go to CVS and pick up some Northern Lights or Bubba Kush.

Dispensaries will be licensed by the state to supply medical marijuana to patients with certain conditions. The state is in the final stages of drafting rules and regulations before granting licenses to dispensaries and it will be still some time before qualified patients can buy legal cannabis products at a dispensary

A medical marijuana card also known as MMJ card is a state-issued identification card which permits a patient who has a qualified doctor recommendation to buy from a licensed cannabis dispensary, possess, or grow cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Patients will be able to apply for a Missouri Medical Cannabis Cards starting July 4th, 2019.

According to the new law, patients with valid approvals from a doctor will be granted medical cards from the state. This permits patients and their registered caregivers to cultivate a maximum of six cannabis plants and purchase four ounces of cannabis from Missouri dispensaries per month.

Patients will need to pay a $25 fee to the state when applying for a medical marijuana card.

We understand that some doctors may be hesitant to recommend medical marijuana, and for the ones that do, its important that they are knowledgeable and understand the many different aspects of cannabis treatment plans.

When looking for a physician who will recommend medical marijuana, a patient should always talk to your primary care physician first. Most states offer protection from being prosecuted for recommending medical marijuana. Even still, some physicians may be apprehensive. So now you need to find a specialist.

A patient should come prepared with their medical records, any prescriptions they are currently taking, and any written referrals a patient might possess. You should also be able to describe your symptoms and what you believe the use of marijuana will do to help relieve your symptoms. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about medical marijuana, including interactions with other medications you might be taking, do you need a caregiver, or which strains are best for
